DAILY WORD TONIC 09/10/2017 - THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, ISAAC, JACOB AND HUMOROUS IRONIES

Abayomi G. Omotayo

Walking with God becomes easier and ultimately profitable if we know His ways. Psalms 103:7 (KJV) He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel. God is the God of humour, deep humour or humorous ironies if you like. Consider the following;

1. Abraham and Sarah whose bodies were dead yet God told Abraham Genesis 17:4 (KJV) As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. Truly . Isaac came from his loins and Sarah's womb. Not only Isaac but every believer has a root in Abraham according to Galatians 3:14 (KJV) That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

2. Gideon who honestly described himself thus in Judges 6:15 (KJV) And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house. Smallness personified! His first encounter with God through an angel was a humorous one. Here's how the angel of God saluted him in Judges 6:12 (KJV) And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour. This was a man at the bottom of the greatness index. Eventually, he delivered Israel with just a 300-man army whittled down from 32,000 by God from the Midianites and Amalekites whose armies the scriptures describe thus in Judges 7:12 (KJV) And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.
If this is not a great feat by a least likely man then what is it?

These two examples out of the many in the Scriptures are to encourage you to ALWAYS trust God and believe absolutely in His word even if it doesn't make sense to you. Ideally it wouldn't make sense to you anyway because our thought level and capacity are not on the same pedestal with His according to Isaiah 55:8-9 (KJV) For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Is there a sharp contrast in your present position and what God has told you or the amazing promises you have seen in the scriptures? Relax, your expected end will not fail to materialize. He is still the same God with the same power who told the barren woman in Isaiah 54:1 (KJV) Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD. Hmmm, truly a God of humorous ironies.

Do have a God-full day.
