- According to the Federal Ministry of Health, this outbreak has killed 328 people across 16 states while 2524 others have been affected.
- The states affected are Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Nassarawa, Jigawa, FCT, Gombe, Taraba, Yobe, Kano, Osun, Cross River, Lagos and Plateau.
- This current Type 'C' outbreak which started in Zamfara in November 2016 is different from the previous epidemics caused by Neisseria Meningitides type ‘A’
- Good news: The minister of Health, Isaac Adewole said government has secured 500,000 doses of the meningococcal vaccines from the World Health Organisation (WHO). This will be used in Zamfara and Katsina states. Another set of 800,000 units are being expected from the British government.
