All hail Kaduna assembly - Passes new law that mandates medical screening before marriage

“No person shall formalize any marriage contract for any person wishing to marry without medical certificate issued by a qualified medical doctor in respect of both parties" - Kaduna state's Pre-medical Examination Bill 2017



Background
  • The Kaduna state house of assembly have passes the Pre-medical Examination Bill 2017 on Thursday 20 April. 2017.
  • The bill makes it mandatory to undergo medical screening twice before marriage. 3 months and 2 weeks to the wedding.
  • The penalty for breaking this law is  a fine of “not less than One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100.000.00) or imprisonment of not less than six (6) months or both."
Our take on the matter
  • Thumbs up to the state government
  • Avoidable situations like giving birth to SS children will be avoided.
Conclusion
  • In Kaduna state. Love is not blind, its eyes have been forced open.
